Musical instruments
There are three different ways to travel with your musical instrument, the choice is yours.
Carry-on baggage
You can travel with a musical instrument in carry-on baggage if it fits in the overhead compartment of the aircraft. The guideline is that the instrument should be very close to the size limits for purchased carry-on baggage (56x45x25 cm). It is the owner's responsibility to ensure the instrument fits in the overhead compartment. The instrument should generally not be larger than a guitar. Instruments that typically fit in the overhead compartment include an alto saxophone in a case, viola case, trombone, violin, and a small harp.
You can add carry-on baggage allowance to your booking through your MyPLAY account.
Checked baggage
If your instrument is larger than a carry-on and doesn't fit in the overhead compartment, you can check it in as regular odd-sized baggage or large odd-sized baggage, depending on its size and weight.
- Maximum dimensions of regular odd-sized baggage are 180x124 cm (70x48 in) and 20 kg (44 lbs).
- Maximum dimensions of larger odd-sized baggage are 277x75x65 cm (109x29x25 in), and 32 kg (70 lbs).
Please note that a fee is charged for all checked baggage. You can add special baggage to your booking through your MyPLAY account.
Booking an extra seat for your instrument
It is also possible to purchase an extra seat for your musical instrument. The maximum dimensions for a musical instrument in a seat are 135x35x45 cm and 75kg.
You will be charged the available airfare price of the extra seat at the time of adding the seat, but will not pay airport taxes for the instrument. Additional baggage allowance cannot be purchased for the seat.
Please contact our service team to book a seat for your musical instrument.
Packing your musical instrument
All odd-sized baggage must be packed to withstand normal baggage handling. All passengers are responsible for their own baggage being suitably packed in a bag/case so that it will not get damaged during the trip.
We have limited liability if any damage occurs to odd-sized baggage that was not properly packed. We recommend that passengers purchase appropriate travel insurance for all valuable baggage, such as musical instruments.
