Procedures on board

Cleaning

Our aircraft are cleaned between flights. The cabin is thoroughly disinfected daily, providing surface protection from viruses that lasts for at least 24 hours.

We recommend washing hands with soap and using a hand sanitizer after going through common areas and touchpoints.

Services on board

We offer touch-free payments on board our aircraft.

Please note that stowing carry-on baggage in the overhead lockers is the responsibility of the passenger. Due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols, our cabin crew limit all contact with personal belongings of our passengers.

Face masks

As of May 16th, 2022, mask use is no longer a requirement on board our flights.

When required, passengers must bring their own masks on board, either a non-medical mask or a medical mask. The mask must cover both the nose and mouth.

It is recommended to bring more than one mask and keep in mind that a mask should not be used for more than 4 hours.

Passengers can take down their mask on board when eating and drinking.

Airbus Air Quality

Our aircraft are already fitted with HEPA filters which eliminate more than 99.9 percent of particles from recirculated air. The result is that the mix of fresh and pre-filtered recirculated air supplied by the ECS to passengers in Airbus cabins is very clean and virus-free.

Airflow inside the cabin is constantly moving: It flows from top to bottom at one meter per second, and is subsequently removed through the floor.

This airflow is optimized to prevent longitudinal movement, so there is no spread between adjacent seat rows.

Air is fully renewed/exchanged with fresh air about every two to three minutes. For comparison, air in hospital rooms and classrooms is exchanged about every 10 minutes and about 20 minutes in offices.

The fresh air from outside the aircraft is naturally free from any pathogens at the high cruising altitudes where airliners operate.

Air is first passed through High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestors (HEPA) filters for injection back into the mixer unit in the ECS. HEPA technology, originally developed for the US military to prevent the spread of airborne radioactive contaminants, has been installed in all Airbus aircraft since 1994.

HEPA filters eliminate more than 99.9 percent of particles from recirculated air. The result is that the mix of fresh and pre-filtered recirculated air supplied by the ECS to passengers in Airbus cabins is very clean and virus-free.

Furthermore, Airbus’ lavatory designs feature antimicrobial surfaces and touchless controls, to further reduce the spread of microbes.
