Introducing Tenerife
Introducing Tenerife
Beautiful Tenerife. The largest of the Spanish Canary Islands and located just off the coast of West Africa, Tenerife is an island paradise with a lot to offer holidaymakers.
Tenerife isn’t just a party hotspot (although it certainly doesn’t disappoint in that arena either). The island is packed with amazing culture, natural wonders, beautiful food, and some pretty darn good weather all year round. So, what are you waiting for? Whether you’re looking to party it up in Playa de las Americas, enjoy some fun for all the family, or chill out under the stars with an exquisite glass of wine, there’s no better place to do it than Tenerife.
A warm welcome to the ‘Fortunate Islands’
Pardon the pun, but there’s good reason why the Canaries have long been known as the ‘Fortunate Islands’ and (yes, you guessed it) it’s all to do with the fabulous weather. The Canary Islands, of which Tenerife is one, enjoy year-round sun and toasty average temperatures of 23 degrees. So, you can forget the weather forecast. Every day is a great day for an adventure in Tenerife.
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and home to the Mt. Teide Volcano (did you know that this is Spain’s highest peak?). The island is famed not only for its gorgeous resorts, and even more gorgeous beaches, but for its vibrant culture, the culmination of which can be enjoyed each year at the Santa Cruz Carnival.
Looking to party?
From beach bars to super clubs, Tenerife has it all. This island is a fantastic destination for those who like to boogie in the sun. For hard-core party goers, Playa de las Americas is the capital of Tenerife nightlife, offering the islands coolest nightclubs, alongside restaurants, bars, and cafes just a stone’s throw from the beach. Whether you want to boogie till the early hours in Las Americas or enjoy a leisurely cocktail with friends in cool Santa Cruz, one thing’s for certain – you won’t be disappointed.
Our suggestions?
For a night of dancing till you drop, head straight for Tramps in Playa de Las Americas. Tramps, otherwise known as the King of Clubs, is Tenerife’s number one super club and has been recognized as one of the very best R&B and House music clubs in the Canaries. Clubbers from all over the world flock to Tramps each year for its major DJ events. Ready to enjoy some hard-core dancing?
For something a bit more upmarket why not head on over to Papagayo beach club for open air dining, ocean views, and scrumptious cocktails. Whether you’re on a romantic getaway or traveling with friends here you’ll be able to while away the mild evenings in style.
Dreaming of your next family holiday?
Tenerife plays host to an abundance of family-friendly activities and destinations. No wonder so many families choose this glorious island as their family holiday destination each year. The island has something for all ages and interests. So, whether your family is into lounging on the beach, hiking, nature, culture, or all of the above, there’ll be no shortage of things to fill the hours.
Soak up some sun on family-friendly Playa de la Pinta. This beach is both beautiful and easily accessible with a calm swell and hella sunset. Plus, there are tons of beach activities on offer – perfect for families with divergent interests. Whether they’re reading on the beach, splashing in the water, or off jet skiing to their heart’s content, all the kids (and parents) will love Playa de la Pinta.
Fancy making some memories to last a lifetime? Why not take the whole family on a dolphin and whale watching boat ride? Dolphins live in the southwest coast of the island all year round and this patch of ocean is also regularly visited by magnificent orcas and whales. In fact, Tenerife is one of the only places where these breathtaking creatures can be seen so close to the coast. The island’s waters are the perfect ecosystem for these sea mammals.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Tenerife is not just for beach lovers.
It’s a popular misconception that the Canaries offer nothing more than beach holiday bliss. Whilst they certainly do offer this in spades, these islands (and Tenerife in particular) offer so much more. If your family prefers hiking to sandcastles, then head on over to the magnificent Teide National Park for spectacular spaces, natural formations, and Spain’s highest peak. This is a Natural World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive volcanic ecosystems on the entire planet. The perfect spot to hike, explore, and marvel at the spectacular views with your loved ones. From lava cones to local plants and wildlife. Feeling a bit tired? No problem. There’s a cable car to take you to the summit should your legs give way at any point.
After all that walking, you’ll surely need some sustenance. It’s time to head on over to one of Tenerife’s amazing family-friendly restaurants. The island is full of laid-back establishments serving local and international cuisine. We recommend the popular Otelo in Costa Adeje. Mum and dad will love the open terrace with views over the Barranco Del Infierno nature reserve, and everyone will drool over the restaurant’s popular specialty pollo al ajillo (that’s garlic fried chicken to you and me)!
For some super authentic cuisine, just pop into any of the island’s many guachinche. Guachinche are makeshift restaurants that can typically be found in the north of the island and serve traditional, homemade food and local wine. Typical dishes include garbanzos (chickpeas), conejo (rabbit), and carne de fiesta (spiced pork). There’s no better place to get a real taste of Tenerife that you won’t find in the tourist hot spots.
Want to unwind at your own pace?
For the more senior holidaymaker, forget about Playa de las Americas. Tenerife has so much to offer those looking for a destination to unwind, relax, and enjoy everything that life has to offer. From tranquil villages to delicious wine and spectacular vistas, there’s no better place to enjoy your retirement.
Take a walk through the historic quarters and soak up the architectural charm, then take some time to sample the delicious local wines. Did you know that Tenerife produces not one, but five, PDO-recognised wines? Thanks to the highly fertile volcanic soil, the island is a haven for wine producers. At La Casa del Vino in El Sauzal, you’ll be able to learn all about the island’s fascinating winemaking traditions in spectacular surroundings.
When evening comes around, the island offers some of the most enviable opportunities for stargazing. Tenerife’s peaks are one of three starlight reserves in the Canaries. You can even book a guided tour at the island’s astrophysical observatory.
And there’s so much more to do, from walking tours to golfing. You’ll never be short of a day’s entertainment. No wonder Tenerife is a firm retirement destination for the over 60s.
The island that just keeps giving
Tenerife really is the island that just keeps giving. With its beautiful climate, natural wonders, fabulous beaches, and no shortage of entertainment, everyone can enjoy Tenerife’s charm. So, whether you’re planning to boogie or bask in the sun, you won’t leave disappointed.
