Your checked baggage in via flights
So, you’re flying across the pond via Iceland. How does that work? Is your baggage checked all the way? Is there anything you need to keep in mind? Read on for answers to your frequently asked questions regarding our via flights.
Is my bag checked in to my final destination?
Yes and no…
Yes, if you booked a flight from point A to point C via point B, your checked baggage is checked in to C (your final PLAY destination). You will receive two boarding passes at check in at your original departure airport and your bag is labeled with your final PLAY destination. Keep in mind that if you travel onwards from there with another airline, you’ll need to check in for those flights separately at that point of departure.
Example: John Stewart books a flight from Washington DC (BWI) to Paris (CDG) via Iceland. John checks in at BWI and receives two boarding passes and a bag tag labeled CDG. John says goodbye to his checked bag at BWI and collects it at CDG. John then grabs a flight with another airline from CDG to Budapest airport. He will have to check in with his baggage at CDG for that flight.
No, if you booked two separate flights in two separate bookings you’ll have to check in your baggage for both flights. If you booked a flight from A to B and then booked another flight from B to C, you’ll need to check in at both airports A and B.
Example: John Stewart books a flight from Washington DC (BWI) to Reykjavik (KEF). He books another flight on another booking number from Reykjavik (KEF) to Paris (CDG). When John checks in at BWI he is only checking in for his flight to KEF. He will have to claim his baggage at KEF airport, go through customs and check in again for his separate booking from KEF to CDG.
Keep in mind…
Just remember that you have to check in for each booking you’ve made with PLAY. Even if both your flights are PLAY flights, they are all treated as unique flights with unique check-in procedures unless they’re via flights made in one booking, with one booking number.
