How to pack oversized and unusual items

These items are required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for these items to avoid any potential damage. If your strollers/prams have inflatable tires, please deflate them slightly. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Bicycles are required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for bicycles to avoid any potential damage. It is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure that bicycles are suitably packed, both to prevent damage to the bicycle itself as well as other baggage in the hold.

Your bicycle should be presented at check-in with the front wheel removed, the handlebars turned in line with the frame, the tires slightly deflated and the pedals either removed or turned inwards. No additional items should be placed in the packaging other than the bicycle. Under no circumstances can motor-assisted bicycles, mopeds, scooters, or motorcycles be transported in our aircraft.

Musical instruments are required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for the instrument. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Winter sports equipment is required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for the equipment. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Golf equipment is required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for the equipment. The heads of the golf clubs must be adequately protected. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Fishing equipment should be packed in rigid, secure containers and rods/poles must be fully broken down. Live bait is not accepted. As a preventative measure against the spread of infectious disease in Iceland, it is prohibited by law to import fishing equipment (including waders and rubber boots) which has been previously used overseas unless it has been adequately disinfected. Passengers are asked to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of their destination country. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Surfboards, kiteboards and paddleboards are required to be packed in heavy-duty cases specifically designed for the equipment. Please remove fins, cut foam pipe insulation covering and duct tape it down the rails of your board, protect the ding prone areas of your board such as the nose and tail, slide the board into a sock or bubble wrap bag if you have one, place the protected board in your board bag. Drain plugs and inspection hatches, if fitted, must be open. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Windsurfing boards are required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for the equipment. The mast should be securely attached with the fin and drain plugs removed. The length of the mast and/or body must not exceed 4.75m / 187”. Tandem boards are prohibited. Please note that we can carry a limited amount of boards per flight. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Sporting firearms (rifles, shotguns, air rifles and handguns/target pistols) for hunting and sports are accepted but only as checked baggage. 

1. The firearm and ammunition must be packed separately from other checked baggage and stowed in a location inaccessible to any unauthorized person during the flight.
2. The passenger must present the appropriate documentation including license(s) relevant to the use of the sporting firearm in the destination state, and also the export from the state concerned. In addition to a visual inspection by check-in staff, the license holder must be consulted to determine that the sporting firearm is not loaded.
3. Sporting firearms are packed in a sturdy container and labeled "Firearms" and the name of the owner.
4. Ammunition and cartridges must be securely packed, ideally in a strong and sealed container made of wood, metal or fiberboard. The ammunition should be packed in such a manner to prevent movement or shock to it during handling or transportation.
5. The quantity of ammunition may not exceed the permitted amount. Currently, the maximum amount is 5 kg and must be for the passenger’s own use.
6. Baggage containing weapons must be directed to the out-of-gauge Oddsize/oversized baggage screening facility and accepted at that point for carriage. If required, it must be physically inspected.

Fragile artwork is required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for the artwork. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.

Pole vault equipment is required to be packed in hard or padded cases specifically designed for the equipment. Pole vaults smaller than 277 cm (109 inches) are accepted. No additional items should be placed in the packaging.
