Arnar Már returns to the executive management team at PLAY
Arnar Már Magnússon, captain and one of the founders of PLAY, will once again take over as Chief Operations Officer (COO) at PLAY. A position held by Arnar until a little over a year ago when he decided to return to the pilot’s seat full-time. As mentioned, Arnar Már is one of the founders of PLAY and was CEO in the start-up phase of the airline between the years 2019-2021, before flights commenced.
Arnar takes over the position from Guðni Ingólfsson, who has been COO since March 2022.
“I am very pleased to have Arnar Már back in the executive team at this point, rested and ready. Arnar has been a key player in the history of PLAY, being one of the founders of the company. Arnar was an strong member of the executive team before he decided to call the skies his home, and it is good to have his energy back during this important year in PLAY’s history. I am positive that the flight operations department will be in good hands. At the same time, I would like to thank Guðni Ingólfsson for the impressive work over the past year. I also wish him the best of luck with future endeavors,” sats Birgir Jónsson, CEO at PLAY.
PLAY’s seat capacity for this summer increases by about 77% compared to the summer of 2022, and four new aircraft will be added to the fleet. This year, PLAY will fly to nearly 40 destinations and will have a total of ten aircraft in operation. The company will also take on approximately 200 new employees, which makes the total around 500 this summer.
“After an eventful and extremely enjoyable year at PLAY, I have decided to step down as COO. I leave grateful for having met the wonderful people who work for the company. I wish my colleagues good luck and look forward to following PLAY’s success in the coming months and years,” says Guðni Ingólfsson.
“I am excited to work with the capable group of professionals in the flight operations department at PLAY again, people I already know very well. It has been great to work on the front line this years past year, and I am grateful to have been able to fly our beautiful new Airbus planes to all our destinations in both North America and Europe, with a great crew both in the flight deck and in the cabin. In the coming months there will be quite a bit of development at PLAY, so the times ahead are exciting and it will be fun to take it on with amazing colleagues, in the air as well as on the ground,” says Arnar Már Magnússon.
